The Number of International Trademark Registrations Through Madrid System- Has Reached a Record High
In the year of 2005, WIPO received 33,565 applications for international trademark registration under the Madrid system. This represents a 13.9% growth on figures over 2004, setting a record in history. Germany continually takes the lead in the number of applications in consecutive thirteen years. The number of applications from China ranked No. 8 in the world and No. 1 among developing countries, 1334 being 4% of the total and the increase being 31.4% over 2004. China also unseated Switzerland as the most designated country in the applications.
